How to Use the Dogtra 200C Remote Training Collar

Dogtra has been manufacturing dog shock collars for 30 years. Their longevity in the e-collar space is a testament to their products' dependability and durability. So much so that Dogtra has become synonymous with dog training collars. If you're in the market for a remote training collar, you can't go wrong with a Dogtra dog collar.

This week’s blog will focus on one of Dogtra’s more popular models - the Dogtra 200C remote training collar.

Getting Started with the Dogtra 200C Remote Training Collar

What is the Dogtra 200C remote dog training collar? The 200C is a remote training collar designed to help with dog training. Remote training collars are also called remote trainers, shock collars, electric collars, or e-collars. You may have seen it written as ecollar or e collar, as well. However it’s spelled, an e-collar is a very helpful tool for correcting your dog’s undesirable behavior. It can also be used for reinforcing already learned commands.

An e-collar for dogs is a valuable communication tool, letting you get your pet’s attention even at a distance. It is therefore excellent for fostering relationships between pets and their owners.

If you’ve just gotten a Dogtra 200C e collar or want to purchase one for your beloved pet, here’s everything you need to know.

The Dogtra 200C Remote Training Collar – Designed with Purpose

The Dogtra 200C remote training e-collar is the perfect training assistant if you have a small dog. With low to medium power stimulation levels, you never need to worry that that static would be too much for your precious pup to handle. It’s ideal for basic obedience training but can easily transition to handle intermediate dog training.

The 200C has a range of ½-mile, is fully waterproof, and comes with a receiver collar that has a comfortable fit. This is fantastic because a good-fitting collar means more consistent stimulation for your dog. This, in turn, leads to more effective training.

The Dogtra 200C e-collar has 100 levels of static stimulation and is best for dogs 10 pounds or larger.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What is an e collar?

    • An e collar is a dog training tool. It is also called remote trainer, remote training collar, or dog shock collar. It allows you to communicate remotely with your dog. Used correctly, an e-collar can help reinforce commands and correct undesirable behaviors in your pet. It provides you the means to train your dog with more precise timing and consistency. This makes an ecollar a very effective training tool.

Will an e collar hurt my dog?

    • A remote trainer works by sending a signal from the transmitter to the collar on the dog’s neck. The signal triggers the static shock stimulation. The stimulation distracts the dog from doing something they’re not supposed to. Alternatively, it can be used to mark the desired behavior. The stimulation may be unpleasant but generally harmless.

The Dogtra 200C also comes with a high-performance pager (vibration) if you do not want to use static or if your dog is more sensitive.

    Are e-collars effective?

    • An e-collar can help tremendously with dog training, but only when used correctly. If you are unsure about using one or do not know how to start, please consult with a professional trainer.

When can I use an e collar for dogs?

    • PetsTEK does not recommend using an e collar for dogs younger than 6 months old. We recommend supplementing training with a remote trainer only when your dog has already learned the basic commands.

    Are Dogtra collars worth it?

    • Dogtra is a very reputable dog e-collar brand. Their dog training collars are reliable, durable, and effective if used correctly.

How does the Dogtra 200C work?

    • The 200C remote transmitter remote sends a signal to the receiver collar on the dog’s neck. The collar has two contact points, also called prongs, that deliver static. You can also set the remote to provide vibration to mark the message you’re sending your pet.

Does the Dogtra 200C have any safety features?

    • The Dogtra 200C has a patented rheostat dial that ensures gradual and precise level changes. This helps you avoid sudden level jumps that may cause accidental shocks. The collar also automatically times out and turns off after 12 seconds of constant stimulation. This is so random over-stimulation of your pet is avoided.

What is the difference between the Dogtra 200C and Dogtra 280C?

    • The Dogtra 280C has 127 levels of static stimulation versus 100 levels for the 200C model.

Does the Dogtra 200C e-collar have a tone?

    • No, the Dogtra 200C only has static stimulation and vibration.

How do I fit the e-collar?

Illustrated Guide on Fitting an E-Collar on a Dog's Neck

    • The e-collar needs to fit properly to ensure consistent correction. This means the stainless steel contact points must be firmly pressed against the dog’s skin. To make sure the e-collar fits correctly:
      • Put the receiver on your dog’s neck below the ears, on either side of the windpipe.
      • Make sure the contact points are firmly pressed against the skin.
      • Check the fit. You should be able to fit a couple of fingers between the strap and your dog’s skin.

If your dog’s hair is too thick, you may consider getting longer contact points. Another option is to shave your dog’s hair where the contact points should touch.

If the collar is too loose, it won’t administer correction reliably. If the collar is too tight, it may cause irritation.

Make sure your dog is comfortable. Rotate the collar every 2 hours and never leave it on for more than 10 hours every day.

Illustrated Dogtra 200C Charger and Cable

    • To charge your Dogtra 200C remote trainer, follow the following steps:
      1. Open the rubber plugs on the transmitter and receiver. Plug the charging cable.
      2. Plug the charger into a 120-volt wall outlet. (Please note that you can also purchase an auto charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter.)
      3. Check the indicator lights. The lights should be red when properly plugged.

The indicator lights will turn green once the unit is fully charged.

You will need to turn the 200C on again before use as it shuts off when being charged.

Do not forget to cover the battery charging receptacles with their rubber plugs again after charging.

Where is the on/off button on the Dogtra 200C remote training collar?

    • The 200C remote transmitter does not have an on/off button. It will turn on when the buttons are pressed.

How do I turn the Dogtra 200C e-collar on?

    • To turn the receiver on, place the red dot on the back of the transmitter against the red dot on the receiver. Hold until the LED light on the receiver comes on.
    • To turn the receiver off, repeat the procedure above. The LED light will briefly turn red to signal that the receiver is now off.

How do I adjust the stimulation level of my 200C e-collar?

    • The Dogtra 200C remote has a rheostat dial on top. The lowest setting is 0. The highest is 100. Rotate the dial to go up or down a level.

Can the Dogtra 200C stimulation intensity be adjusted when in use?

    • Yes, the stimulation intensity can be adjusted while in use.

Why can’t I get the full range on my e-collar?

    • Transmitter range may vary depending on use. Hold the transmitter remote away from the body and do not touch the antenna to get the best results. It also helps to keep the unit adequately charged for maximum signal strength.

How do I know if my Dogtra 200C e-collar is ready for use?

    • Check the LED indicator lights. If the light flashes every 4 seconds, then the receiver is on and ready for use. The LED indicator will also blink on the remote and the collar when the transmitter buttons are pressed.

What are the buttons on the Dogtra 200C for?

    • The Dogtra 200C has three (3) buttons on the transmitter.

Nick – located at the top of the left side, emits a single rapid pulse of electric stimulation

Constant – located at the bottom of the left side, gives continuous stimulation for as long as the button is pressed (up to 12 seconds)
Pager – located at the transmitter face, gives vibration for as long as the button is pressed (up to 12 seconds)

    What is the 200C Pager?

Can I change stimulation levels while pressing the remote buttons?

    • The stimulation intensity can be adjusted even when the stimulation is in use.

How do I know if the 200C battery is low?

    • The LED indicator lights will tell you the battery life level of the 200C e-collar.

    Amber = Medium Charge

    Red = Needs Charge

Troubleshooting the Dogtra 1900S Remote Training Collar

    1. Why is my dog not reacting to the e-collar?

Your dog not reacting to the e-collar stimulation could be a simple matter of the receiver and transmitter not being turned on. It could also be due to the prongs not touching your dog's skin. Check the fit. If the fit is okay, check the prong length. If the contact points are too short, you may want to get longer ones to get the collar to work correctly. If you are already using the longest length, you may consider shaving your dog's hair to get better contact.

Check our blog for more reasons why your dog is not reacting to the e-collar.

    1. The test light turns on, but I do not feel anything.

You may simply have a high tolerance. Try turning the level up. This could also be due to the battery being low. Check your LCD for battery life.

    1. The range is less when the dog is farther away.

Check if the antenna is not damaged. It could be due to terrain if it’s not an antenna issue. Heavy brush or tree cover can affect the range of the device. Similarly, any electrical conductors in the area will affect the range of the e-collar.

    1. My 200C is not holding a charge.

Check if the batteries are charged properly. If the charging port is dirty, try cleaning the dirt with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. If the charging pin is damaged, contact Dogtra for repair.
